My inner child enjoys these films. There’s a strong female hera – Mila Jovovich as Alice, and lots of great action scenes. Okay, I know it can be a little bit silly. But the Resident Evil films, five and counting, is the most successful series based on a video game. So far the franchise has pulled in $915 million. Two more films are planned.
Of course, it made me curious to look at a chart! Resident Evil, the first film, premiered on March 12, 2002 in Los Angeles, and the general release was on March 15, 2002. The chart for March 15 features a Moon-Venus conjunction in Aries, which describes the strong-female lead doing kick-ass action scenes. It’s also kinda funny that Mercury in Pisces (in fall) is square Saturn in Gemini. Alice gets cloned over and over again, and these planets in double-bodied signs reflect that. Mercury also trines Jupiter, so all these clones eventually turn into a strike force for Alice in RE: Afterlife.
The Pluto-South Node conjunction relates the basic premise of the story line: the virulent T- virus created by Umbrella Corp is released and triggers a zombie apocalypse. Through some kind of fluke, Alice bonds with the T-virus and becomes a super-tough bad-ass. A few people remain uninfected and seek a place to live without risk of being attacked by the infectious zombies. In any given film, Alice mows through hundreds of zombies – just pure fun!
The imaginative aspect of the films is shown by the Venus-Neptune sextile. Who cares if it makes sense or has some kind of moral implications? Do films always have to be deep and meaningful? Heck no! There’s also a Mars-Neptune square, signifying the relentless, gory violence portrayed in the films and the pervasive damage caused to civilization by the contagious T-virus.
And as for the success of the series, Jupiter in Cancer is conjunct the Midheaven. Success is a shoe-in with that placement, along with constant growth and expansion. Not all of the films are on par, but the story continues to roll along. Several of the main characters from the books and video games make repeat appearances. Writer Paul Anderson keeps thinking of new and disgusting ways for zombies to be dispatched, and new challenges for Alice.
Everything goes in cycles. The first film was released with Saturn in Gemini. Two more films are planned, so the series will wrap up as Saturn transits Sagittarius from 2015-2017 and makes an opposition to Saturn’s position in 2002. A fourteen-year run of any film series is outside of the norm.
Alice is played by Mila Jovovich, born December 17, 1975 in Kiev, and was called the “queen of kick-butt” by VH1. Jovovich began her career as a model and branched out into films and music. She has a Venus-Uranus conjunction sextile Mercury in her birth chart, which draws her toward roles in sci-fi/action films like The Fifth Element and UltraViolet. Jovovich’s family left Kiev when she was a kid and it was a difficult transition for the entire family. She’s been married several times, most of short duration. She is now married to the writer of the Resident Evil series, Paul Anderson. Although critics have mixed opinions about Jovovich, she’s attracted a huge geek fan base. Without an accurate time of birth, it’s hard to pinpoint chart significations for career and family life. She has kept diaries through her life to note the places she’s been and things she’s done, which is a pretty Sagittarian thing to do.
